Residual:

Residual haunts are spirits that repeat themselves over and over again.  It has no awareness of your presence, and it will continue whether you are there or not. Like a tape recorder it just keeps playing over and over again, usually at cretin time of day or on a cretin day of the year.  Residual haunts are easy to investigate because they are constant.  They occur at the same time every time.  Usually caused by stored energy, most likely in limestone or quartz, (a material similar to what we store information for computers on) a recent scientific study supports the theory that events in history with high levels of energy and emotion, like a war or gruesome murder, can pass energy into the environment.  At times this energy can be released resulting in what you could call a natural stored image

One example is the image of a women running down the stairs every night at 3:00 A.M...
